  • Pendant Sail Shades- Warrington Central Library

The Library in Warrington is a Grade 2 listed building, with a stunning 10 metre high ceiling, huge skylights and beautiful original decorative mouldings. The library is a great piece of architecture, except for the blazing sun creating uncomfortable working conditions below.

At a height of 10 metres traditional blind systems would have needed to the ability to close and open. Raising the prospect of using mechanical means to do so. This option was very expensive and would have required closure of the library for several days, as scaffolding would have been needed to carry out the works.

    The Funky Blind Solution

We proposed mounting our new pendant sail shades onto architectural cables at a height of 4 metres. Our pendants would also slide on the cabling, allowing optimum location of shade.

Our system would provided the following benefits to the library:

    1) Cheaper than conventional blinds
    2) Easy of installation
    3) No closure of the building
    4) No mechanical breakdowns
    5) Easy cleaning
    6) A fantastic focal point
    7) No natural light blocked out
    8) The design of the building remained intact

The pendants were installed within three hours on a Friday night.

  • Guards Polo Club - Windsor Great Park

The Polo Club has a new restaurant and office building. Some of the seating area was located under a roof light. At certain times, on sunny days the areas were rendered unusable.

We were invited to propose a solution. Our solution was to fit three 3 metre square sail shades across the space, angled so that sun could not shine through directly.

The sails were fitted inside one hour, creating a great sculptural form in the roof light area.

The sails were fitted for under £1500, which was comfortably less than bespoke blinds.
